Questions

Everything you might ask

The questions couples ask us most often. If yours isn’t here, ask us on your tour.

Answers describe a fictional venue for demonstration.

Planning your day

How far ahead should we book?

Most couples book twelve to eighteen months ahead for a peak Saturday. Midweek and winter dates are often available at shorter notice.

Can we visit before we book?

Of course. Private tours take about an hour and end with tea in the Library. You are welcome to return for a second visit once you have booked.

Do you hold more than one wedding a day?

Never. Every wedding has exclusive use of the house, gardens and coach house for the whole day.

What deposit is required?

An example deposit of 25% secures your date, with the balance due eight weeks before the wedding. Terms on a real venue site would be set out in full here.

Ceremonies

Can we marry legally at Alderwick?

In this fictional example, the Orangery, Walled Garden and Library are licensed for civil ceremonies. You would give notice with the local register office.

What happens if it rains?

Outdoor ceremonies move to the Orangery, which is laid out in parallel on the morning so the decision can be made at the last minute.

Can we have a celebrant-led ceremony?

Yes — celebrant-led and blessing ceremonies can take place anywhere on the estate, including by the lake.

Food & drink

Can we bring our own caterer?

Our kitchen team cooks for every wedding, which keeps the day joined-up. We are happy to welcome specialist cake makers and late-night food vans.

Do you cater for dietary requirements?

Yes. Every menu can be adapted for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and allergy requirements, and we ask for details eight weeks ahead.

Is there corkage?

You can supply your own wine for an example corkage charge per bottle, or choose from our cellar list.

Staying over

How many guests can stay on site?

The coach house sleeps up to twenty-six guests in twelve rooms, all reserved for your wedding party.

Is there accommodation nearby?

We would share a list of nearby inns and cottages, along with taxi firms who know the estate.

Accessibility

Is the venue accessible for wheelchair users?

The Orangery, Great Hall and terrace have level access, there is an accessible toilet in each, and one ground-floor coach house room has a wet room. Garden paths are firm gravel.

Can we bring assistance dogs?

Assistance dogs are always welcome everywhere on the estate.

Suppliers

Do we have to use your recommended suppliers?

Not at all. We share a list of photographers, florists and musicians who know the house well, but you are free to choose your own.

When can suppliers set up?

From 9am on the day of the wedding, or from 4pm the day before for weekend packages.

Is there a noise limit for bands?

Live music runs until 11.30pm in the Great Hall, with the terrace doors closed after 10pm out of respect for our neighbours.
